My journey with weight and body image has been long and frustrating. I’ve lost, gained, and lost what feels like a million pounds. I’ve skipped out on special occasions and fun events because I felt ashamed of how I looked, my thoughts about how others might judge me, and being frustrated that I had to think about seating. Yes, seating! Would I fit into a booth? Would the chair be able to hold my weight? (Oh, how I hated folding chairs!) Sitting made my belly rolls VERY pronounced, how could I possibly hide that? Honestly, those feelings weighed me down in more ways than one. It wasn’t just about the number on the scale—it affected my relationships with family, friends, and significant others. It felt like I was stuck in a cycle that I couldn’t break, and I felt weak, helpless, and depressed. 😔

At my heaviest, I saw 321 on the scale. At the age of 43, in excruciating pain, x-rays confirmed my knees were shot and I needed knees replacements. I had tried everything to lose weight, the fad diets, the prepackaged food systems, and nothing lasted long term. At this point, I could only be on my feet for about 20 minutes before I felt like screaming, not only from the knee pain, but where I was with the hateful relationship with my body.

An Orthopedic Surgeon, also concerned about my weight and the risk of surgery at that weight, referred me to a bariatric clinic. At that point in my life, where I was mentally, I thought this would be the end of my struggle with weight and finally bring me happiness. WRONG!!

For the next year and a half, I constantly threw up, had kidney stones 3 times, was dehydrated, and had vitamin deficiencies at very dangerous levels. I was not mentally prepared for everything, so now I added regret to the list of emotions that defined my journey with weight.

Soon, 2020 came and the world changed. I felt like the world was full of hate and I needed something else. I didn't know exactly what that was, but I needed something. I needed a mental shift. We all know, we can only control ourselves, so I had to figure out what was going to bring me peace. After trying several modalities, I landed on hypnosis and I'm grateful I did.

I wish I’d found hypnosis years earlier to help deal with the overwhelming emotions that drove years of unhealthy habits. No matter how one loses weight, it’s an exhausting internal battle. Hypnosis helped me finally get to root issues to make confident choices—without feeling trapped in the cycle of self-criticism. And most importantly, it helped me realize that I’m enough, just as I am.
